SABR wants to stop Deep Focus from trademarking "sabermetrics" |

 The Society for American Baseball Research has recently filed an oposition with the United States Patent an Trademark Office,requesting to stop Deep Focus from trademarking "sabermetrics" .
SABR Executive Director John Zajc says "We believe sabermetrics is a generic term and should remain in the public domain.SABR is part of a larger movement toward open source sharing of information. Having a private company own a federal trademark registration for a term in common use in our industry is not in line with that philosophy.”
The purposes of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) are to encourage the study of baseball from the past and to encourage more research so that they can maintain the accurate historical record of baseball.
