Thomas Sutcliffe,a Hanover resident has registered www.LenFariello.com and www.JudyIradi.com domain names previously used by other politicians.
Deputy Mayor Judy Iradi said "this is obviously meant to make it difficult for residents to find my Web site" when she runs for re-election next year. She also said it's "creepy, unethical and just going too far". Having these problems Mayor Len Fariello is using now another domain name,www.LenFariello.net ,after he used www.LenFariello.com in his previous two campaign. The same Fariello said he will investigate whether Sutcliffe violated the "Cyberpiracy Protection for Individuals" section of Federal Trademark Act that states, "Any person who registers a domain name that consists of the name of another living person, or a name substantially and confusingly similar thereto, without that person's consent, with the specific intent to profit from such name by selling the domain name for financial gain to that person or any third party, shall be liable in a civil action by such person." Sutcliffe stated that "There is no intent to profit from subject domain names, and I am therefore not in violation of said act." Moreover he said "I do differ with their political views and would point out that it is everyone's First Amendment right to communicate their differences as they see fit". |
